Job summary

The Cleveland Clinic is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician in Mentor, OH. You will join a patient-first healthcare team, performing blood collection with a focus on accuracy and patient comfort in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood collection procedures and venipuncture while maintaining log sheets.

  • Label specimens and deliver to the appropriate processing area.
  • Perform specimen processing and related tasks (accessioning, centrifugation, packaging).
  • Pickup and deliver blood and lab supplies as needed.

Phlebotomy Technicians are essential members of the medical laboratory team, responsible for the accurate and efficient collection of blood samples from patients. Because many individuals children, teens, and adults alike may feel anxious or fearful about needles or the blood-draw process, skilled phlebotomists play a critical role in creating a calm, reassuring experience. By using strong communication skills, empathy, and proper technique, they help put patients at ease while obtaining high-quality specimens. The team prefers candidates with prior phlebotomy experience. For new graduates, the team prefers candidates who have completed an externship during which they gained hands‑on experience drawing blood.

There is also significant opportunity for professional growth within the department, including roles such as Lead Phlebotomist, Team Lead, or Supervisor, as well as advancement throughout the Cleveland Clinic system.

A caregiver in this position works days, 8:00am—5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets.
  • Verify order requests and identify information prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.
  • Label all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area.
  • Perform specimen processing and send out tasks, including accessioning, centrifugation and packaging.
  • Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types and lab supplies.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Phlebotomy Technician experience
  • Technical proficiency with standard procedures, techniques and common practices
  • Troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills in a team environment
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Formal Phlebotomy Certification
  • Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program with a clinical rotation/externship
  • Experience strongly preferred
  • Trouble shooting and problem‑solving skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Can excel in a high‑volume, fast‑paced work environment
Physical Requirments:
  • Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.
  • Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $17.95

Maximum hourly: $25.50
