Overview
Phlebotomy Technician – Hastings, MN. Schedule: Monday, Thursday & Friday 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM; Tuesday & Wednesday 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM; with rotational weekends.
The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing, Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children, and all related functions.
Pay and Benefits
Pay range: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
Essential generic job functions:
- Collects blood and/or performs POC as assigned
- Cleans and re-stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays
- Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing
- Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using proper aseptic collection techniques
- Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames
- Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the blood is to be tested
- Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics
- Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents
- Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor
- Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion
- Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if out of range to group leader or supervisor
- Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing, as needed, at health fairs and PSA testing sites and delivers specimens to laboratory
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and delivers care that is specific to those needs (age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) and communicates with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level

Qualifications
Required Work Experience:
- 1 year phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections
- Keyboard/data entry experience
- Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable
Physical Requirements
- Lift 1 to 40 pounds; occasional lifts above 40 pounds with assistance
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently
- Position requires travel
- Extensive use of phone and PC
- Fine dexterity and steadiness
- Talking, walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting
Knowledge, Education and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred
- Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington
