Job summary

Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant training is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and LIS experience preferred.
  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries.
  • Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick following proper patient identification.
  • Transport specimens to the appropriate lab area following safety procedures.
  • Enter demographic information and test orders into information systems; manage charges and credits.
  • Inform staff of unusual or problematic incidents; adhere to hospital policies.

Responsibilities:
  • Interact with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally; responds to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Following proper patient identification procedures, procures appropriate blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick.

  • Specimen collection may be performed at off-site locations.

  • Transports specimens from on- and off-site collection areas to the appropriate section of the laboratory following established safety procedures.

  • Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, including hand hygiene techniques and proper isolation precautions, compliance and personnel policies.

  • As required, performs related clerical duties, and utilizes various computer functions to accurately enter demographic information into the information system(s), enters test orders, receives, cancels, charges, and credits tests, while ascertaining adequacy of patient information as well as sample identity.

  • Inform technical staff, supervisory personnel and/or pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents.

  • May also perform arterial puncture following strict collection and post collection guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

We’re looking for a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our team! While experience is a big plus, we’re especially interested in candidates, whether new or experienced, who have completed training in a Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, or an EMT course. Schedule:

This position will work primarily afternoon shift. This position will rotate weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Shifts include:

  • Afternoon Shift: Typically, 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM & 2:00 PM- 10:00PM

At times, occasional travel to offsite locations may be required to collect specimens and bring them back to the lab for processing.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Driver's License
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
