Job summary

Arizona Spine and Joint Hospital is seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our team on a PRN basis. The role supports the Clinical Lab Scientist with specimen processing, maintains the workflow, and ensures accurate patient identification before blood draws.

You will perform phlebotomy and EKGs, prioritize STAT and ASAP orders, and deliver friendly, efficient service. A high school diploma and a valid phlebotomy certification are required, with at least one year of acute-care experience

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year phlebotomy experience in a acute care setting preferred.
• Valid Phlebotomy certification with national level accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Assist Clinical Lab Scientist with specimen processing and clerical tasks.
• Maintain laboratory and pathology work area, blood collection trays, supplies.
• Prioritize STAT, ASAP, scheduled orders and outpatient visits.
• Identify patients accurately before blood collection or EKG procedures.
• Draw blood competently and minimize patient discomfort.
• Perform EKGs efficiently with annual competency.

Essential Skills

• Assists Clinical Lab Scientist with laboratory specimen processing and clerical work when needed.
• Maintains laboratory and pathology work area, blood collection trays, supply inventory and ordering process.
• Completes duties in a time efficient manner, knows how to prioritize STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders and outpatients.
• Performs proper patient identification process following hospital’s patient identifiers prior to blood collection or EKG procedure.
• Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
• Performs EKG's efficiently with timely completion of annual EKG competency.
• Requires minimal supervision in performance of job duties but seeks guidance and direction whenever needed.
