Under the supervision of the Administrative Director of Laboratory, the Phlebotomist is responsible for the collection, reception, and distribution of specimens. Performs clerical duties including reporting, distributing client supplies, and performing limited specimen analysis as trained, under the direction of the Pathologist and Laboratory Director. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care to specific patient populations, including neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Participates in interdisciplinary team efforts, interacting mainly with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Some college credits in biology or chemistry and/or military basic medical laboratory procedures preferred.
Experience: One year of hospital laboratory experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification: None required; however, completion of a phlebotomy certification program with a national registry is preferred.
Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, reaching.
Occasional: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting.
Visual and hearing acuity required; color vision necessary for perceiving solution colors. Work is indoors with good ventilation and temperature control.
Potential exposure to toxic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, communicable diseases, and bloodborne pathogens.
