Job summary

Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is seeking a qualified Phlebotomist to join our clinical team. The role involves performing venipuncture, labeling and processing specimens, and ensuring specimens are handled per established procedures.

The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED, certified phlebotomist credentials, and at least 6 months of relevant experience in a hospital or lab setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency.
  • Minimum of 6 months venipuncture experience in a lab or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow physicians' orders.
  • Match requisitions forms to specimens; label, centrifuge, and prepare samples as required.
  • Pack and transport specimens; maintain proper containment and temperature.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and wear PPE.
  • Attend annual department trainings and perform other duties as assigned.

Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is currently recruiting a skilled and experienced Phlebotomist, PRN Phlebotomist, (6:30am-2:30pm), join our team of healthcare professionals.

Phlebotomist Responsibilities
  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required.
  • Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
  • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Checks all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
  • Understand's and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Wears appropriate attire including all PPE.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education

High School Diploma or GED

Certifications

Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency, for the state employed as required by state

Experience

Minimum of 6 months work experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting.
