Job summary

US Lawns seeks a part-time phlebotomist to safely collect evidentiary blood samples from DUI arrestees at Cumberland County Central Booking. The Records Manager oversees the phlebotomist.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, ASCP Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Tech certification, and a PA driver’s license, with at least 1 year in a medical lab or phlebotomy role. Scheduled Fridays 9:00p–5:00a and Saturday nights every third week, plus occasional events.

Responsibilities

  • Performs venous and capillary blood collection with proper labeling and storage.
  • Maintains supplies and ensures proper infection control and safety.
  • Follows sterile technique and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Coordinates with DA’s laboratory and attends required trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned in a professional manner.

Job Summary

To safely and accurately collect, record, track, store, and process evidentiary blood samples collected from DUI arrestees brought to Cumberland County Central Booking. The Records Manager serves as the phlebotomist’s immediate supervisor.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintains knowledge of phlebotomy "Best Practices": safety/infection control, HIPAA regulation, Laboratory Quality Essentials and Laboratory Procedures.
  • Performs venous and capillary blood collection; accurately collects blood specimen in adequate volume to ensure availability of test result and provide correct specimen labeling, documentation, storage and tracking.
  • Follows proper procedure for sterile technique.Reports any unsafe condition found in the Central Booking Unit to prevent the risk of infection to employees or defendant / patients.
  • Keeps collection supplies properly stocked at all times and stored in a safe and secure manner. Assists in identifying phlebotomist supplies requiring reordering.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Assists with scheduled Sobriety Checkpoint Operations when directed.
  • Serves as a credible witness as it pertains to DUI prosecution when subpoenaed by proper authority.
  • Communicates as needed with representatives from the DA’s laboratory.
  • Uses computers, other office equipment, and medical equipment as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in a professional and cooperative manner
Minimum Requirements to Perform the Work
Education
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant, ASCP certified Phlebotomy Tech, or equivalent required.
  • A valid PA Driver’s License is required.
Work Experience
  • At least 1 year experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant or phlebotomist.
