Qualifications

Education High School Graduate or Equivalent Experience / Qualifications BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers. Position Summary

The Phlebotomist Accurately and efficiently performs specimen collections and testing as defined by laboratory policy and procedure manuals. Greets patient and verifies patient identity. Prepares patient for drawing blood, explaining the blood draw procedure to the patient, answering any questions about the process, and easing patient concerns. Assesses the environment to assure patient safety and determines appropriate equipment to use that meets the patient’s needs. Gathers medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, etc, as needed Accurately label, prepare, and handle all collected specimens per policy and infection control guidelines Perform accurate and timely data entry into the system of patient information and specimen Organizes workflow to improve efficiency. Decontaminates equipment and work area to ensure a clean environment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.

Threshold Requirements

These threshold requirements are required and completed yearly basis. Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation. TB/PPD Surveillance Program Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
