Job summary

Community Memorial Health System is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our laboratory team in Ventura. The role involves obtaining specimens from patients of all ages and processing tests, ensuring accurate labeling and timely results.

Qualified candidates will have a California Phlebotomy License, BLS certification, high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license. Prior hospital experience is a plus; position requires reliable, patient-focused individuals.

Qualifications

• Must have Phlebotomy skills including specimen collection and processing.
• License and certifications required: Phlebotomy, BLS, and valid driver’s license.
• Driving record must meet company insurer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Obtain specimens from inpatients and outpatients of all ages.
• Process patient specimens, including registration, test requests, and results.
• Resolve send-out issues promptly and document resolutions.
• Maintain stock of supplies and ensure availability.
• Serve as courier transporting specimens between sites.

The pay range above represents the lowest possible rate for the position and the highest possible rate. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Pay for PRN positions is calculated differently than Full-Time, Regular Part-Time, and Part-Time positions. PRN Rates depend on the position and other factors, including years of experience, or shift commitment according to the department policy. PRN differential is added in certain positions.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

Processes laboratory orders and obtains all required specimens for laboratory testing.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Obtains all required specimens from inpatients and outpatients of all ages while keeping identification protocols as a high priority.
2. Processes patient specimens including but not limited to registration, test requests, specimen processing of in-house and send out tests, site batches and phone calls of patient results.
3. Has the ability and knowledge to resolve send out issues in a timely manner. Able to make decisions based upon the urgency of the situation and documents all issues/resolutions in accordance with work procedures and hospital and departmental policies.
4. Stocks and maintains an adequate amount of supplies at all times.
5. Acts as a courier transporting specimens.

Qualifications

Required

• High school Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Current California Phlebotomy License
• Current BLS certification
• Current Driving License
• Current and ongoing Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that is considered insurable under the CMHS insurance coverages

Preferred

• Six (6) plus months recent hospital experience
