Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Hospital Phlebotomy Technician to join our patient-focused team in Massachusetts. The role involves receiving specimens from couriers, logging accession numbers, sorting and triaging, and handling phone communications while ensuring accurate data entry and medical terminology usage.

You will process specimens (centrifugation, pour-off, labeling) and prepare outreach samples, using pneumatic tubes or dumbwaiters as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma and familiarity with data entry and medical terminology.
• Proficient data entry skills with attention to accuracy.
• Good communication and ability to follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Receive specimens from couriers and verify appropriate count.
• Log and assign accession numbers to specimens and requisitions.
• Sort and triage requisitions and specimens to the correct workstation; file manifests.
• Answer telephones and communicate pertinent information.
• Send specimens and carriers to sites using pneumatic tube or dumbwaiter; troubleshoot as needed.
• Process specimens including centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting and labeling.
• Register short form outreach specimens received from clients.
