Job summary

Northwest Community Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist III for per diem coverage. The role involves venipuncture and capillary collection across all age groups, accurate patient identification, and precise labeling using the Rover device where appropriate.

You will assist with sample processing, participate in staff orientation, and support laboratory services with timely customer service and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Four years of high school or equivalent completed.
• Phlebotomy certification from an approved school is highly desirable.
• CPR-BLS from the AHA is required.
• Minimum of 3 years phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting.
• Experience drawing blood from patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients.
• Accurately identify patients and label specimens before leaving the bedside.
• Collect body fluids and other samples as ordered (nasal/throat swabs, breath samples).
• Prepare and assist in processing of samples per guidelines.
• Help orient and train phlebotomy staff and students.
• Address customer requests for laboratory services promptly.
• Provide phone coverage and maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
• Serve as a resource to phlebotomists and team members; assist with training.
• Adhere to infection control and safety standards; maintain records.

Hourly Pay Range:$19.89 - $28.84 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.Position Highlights:Position: Phlebotomist III - Per DiemLocation: Northwest Community HospitalFull Time/Part Time: Per DiemHours: Mon-Thurs-7am-8pm, Fridays- 7am-5pm, Sat 7am-5pm.Required Travel: YesWhat you will do:Proficiently performs accurate venipuncture and capillary specimen collection for all inpatients and outpatients for all age groups.Correctly identifies patients before specimen collection and labels all specimens accurately before leaving patient bedside using the Rover device when appropriateMay be responsible for collection of body fluid or other samples including, nasal and throat swabs, and breath samples.Prepares and assists in the processing of blood and body fluid samples per established guidelines.Assist in the orientation and training of phlebotomy staff and students.Applies skills and experience to identify and address problems as they arise and notifies lead/supervisory personnel as needed.Assists with inventory management duties as assigned.Ensures that all customer requests for Laboratory services are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.Provides phone coverage and understands the importance of professional appearance and behavior in conducting oneself in a customer-oriented manner in accordance with the hospital’s mission.Serves as a resource to other Phlebotomists and team members and assists in training.Practices appropriate Standard Precautions as described in Infection Control and Prevention Activities. Adheres to all other departmental and hospital safety standards in order to maintain a safe patient care and working environment.Maintains records such as logs, workload records, and requisitions in a neat and organized manner.What you will need:Education: The level of knowledge normally obtained through the completion of four years of high school or the equivalent.Certification: Certification in approved school of phlebotomy is highly desirable. CPR-BLS from the AHA required.Experience: A minimum of 3 years phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting; including experience working with all age groups of patients and performing various age-related testing procedures.
