Job summary

Spectraforce Technologies seeks a Phlebotomist II to join our client’s lab in Latham, NY, for a 3+ month engagement. The role involves blood draws, specimen labeling, and processing, with varied Monday–Friday hours and alternating Saturdays.

You will support specimen handling, data entry, and adherence to lab procedures and safety regulations. The ideal candidate holds state Phlebotomy certification, 6 months’ venipuncture experience, and proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data and decontamination, and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in the appropriate collection container/tube.
• Accurately label specimens and follow specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Summary

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
