Phlebotomist II

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to support a busy clinic serving both adult and pediatric patients. The ideal candidate will have strong venipuncture skills, excellent patient care and customer service abilities, and hands-on experience with specimen processing, preparation, and packaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.
- Collect blood and other specimens according to established procedures.
- Serve both adult and pediatric patients.
- Explain the blood-draw/specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
- Verify physician orders and match requisitions with the correct specimens.
- Properly label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and prepare specimens as required.
- Package specimens for transportation while maintaining specimen integrity.
- Store specimens at the appropriate temperature and in the proper containers.
- Update and verify patient information accurately.
- Record equipment maintenance and perform required decontamination.
- Follow OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Answer telephone inquiries and provide appropriate assistance.
- Attend required departmental training.
- Troubleshoot collection-related issues and make workflow recommendations when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of phlebotomy experience - this is specifically required by the site.
- Strong venipuncture experience in a fast-paced clinical/lab environment.
- Pediatric phlebotomy experience is a MUST.
- Experience with both straight and butterfly needles.
- Hands‑on specimen processing experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong patient care and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently, as this is a single-staff location.
- Ability to stand for approximately 6-7 hours per day.
Preferred Experience
- Experience processing, preparing, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and packaging specimens.
- Experience working with both pediatric and adult patients.
- Experience in a patient service center, clinic, hospital, or laboratory setting.
- Strong knowledge of specimen handling and transportation procedures.
Work Environment
