Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Phlebotomist to obtain quality blood samples across age groups using various collection methods. You will interact with patients, nurses and providers to ensure accurate labeling, transportation and timely sample handling.

Training is provided on the job, with a focus on safety and quality in a collaborative environment. You will work independently and as part of a team, supporting emergency response and helping train students and new staff.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience preferred; on-the-job training offered.
• Ability to interact with patients of all ages in a clinical setting.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Obtain quality blood samples using venous, capillary, arterial, and line collection methods as applicable.
• Ensure accurate patient identification and proper specimen labeling and transport.
• Answer phones and assist with training of students and new employees.
• Respond rapidly to medical emergencies and codes as needed.
• Collaborate with nurses, providers and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.

As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups. Methods may include venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections. Not all locations use all methods. You will provide rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes.

Working as a Phlebotomist at Mayo Clinic, you will be working both independently and as a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment, and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. You will interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. A variety of computer programs and systems will be used throughout your daily routine. Additional responsibilities of this role include accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation, answering phones, assisting with the training of students and new employees..
