Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Phlebotomist I for a contract, onsite role based in North Charleston, SC. The candidate will perform blood draws, label specimens, and ensure proper handling and labeling according to procedures.

Responsibilities include centrifuging specimens, maintaining records, preparing specimens for transport, and verifying test requisitions. The role requires phlebotomy certification and at least 6 months' experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with blood draw and venipuncture techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate work areas and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens, such as blood, urine, or fecal samples, according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
