Job summary

Quest Diagnostics Incorporated in Freeport, NY is seeking a Phlebotomist I to collect specimens and perform phlebotomy-related duties in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The role includes administrative tasks, data entry, and customer interaction as part of routine sample processing.

The position requires English communication skills, a high school diploma, and preferred phlebotomy training or certification. Weekend rotations are possible, with a pay range of $24.00–$24.50 per hour.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical training (e.g., medical assistant or paramedic) is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification is preferred; required in CA, NV, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Collect specimens per established procedures (drug screens, biometric screening, insurance exams).
  • Administer oral solutions per training.
  • Verify orders using lab systems and client contact."
  • Navigate computer systems and enter data accurately.
  • Obtain ID and enter billing information; collect payments where required.
  • Process specimens: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, transport prep.
  • Perform non-patient facing duties: inventory, stock, filing, phones, email."
  • Read and comply with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist with statistics/data submission as needed.
  • Maintain phlebotomy logs and training records.

Job description

Phlebotomist I - Freeport, NY, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with rotational weekends
Pay range: $24.00 - $24.50 / hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities:
Job Accountabilities (Responsibilities)
  • Collect specimens according to established procedures. This includes, but not limited to: drug screens, biometric screening and insurance exams.
  • Administer oral solutions according to established training.
  • Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems, Client contact, and approved tools.
  • Ability to navigate a computer and accurately enter data is a requirement to be successful in this role.
  • Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following corporate policies.
  • Processing specimens including: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and preparing for transport as required by test order.
  • Perform all non-patient facing duties, including inventory, stock supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones and utilizing email as appropriate.
  • Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required.
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
  • Complete online and in person training courses timely.
Qualifications:
Required Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Work Experience
  • One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.

The position requires the ability to effectively communicate in English.
