Job summary

ICONMA, on behalf of our clinical laboratory client in Oceanside, CA, seeks a Float Phlebotomist I to perform venipuncture, specimen handling, labeling, and transport as part of a fast-paced lab team.

The role requires experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, and maintaining accurate patient information, with adherence to OSHA/DEP regulations and periodic training.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information.

Responsibilities

• Assist in performing assigned duties, troubleshooting, training and workflow recommendations.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate technique with straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Understand and comply with physicians' orders.
• Match requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Check test requisitions against scripts for accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; attend annual trainings.
• Cover PSC locations as needed with pediatric to geriatric drawing skills.

Job description

Our client, a Clinical Laboratory company, is looking for a Float Phlebotomist I for their Oceanside, CA location.

Responsibilities:

• The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required.
• Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
• Covering PSC locations, exp with pedi up to geri drawing skills

Requirements:

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
