Job summary

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment.
• Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, including venipuncture using straight and/or butterfly needles.
• Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and process specimens per test requirements.
• Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens per procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly to patients.
• Review orders and ensure requisitions match specimen tubes.
• Verify test requisitions or labels for 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport maintaining temperature and integrity.
• Update patient information and maintain specimen records.
• Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination.
• Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and lab protocols.
• Attend required annual department training.
• Answer calls and provide lab results.
• Assist with troubleshooting, training, and workflow improvements.

Position Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, including venipuncture using straight and/or butterfly needles.
• Properly label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and process specimens according to test requirements.
• Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients.
• Review physicians' orders and ensure laboratory requisitions match the correct specimen tubes.
• Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and maintain required temperature and specimen integrity.
• Update patient information and maintain accurate specimen and laboratory records.
• Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination.
• Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and established laboratory protocols.
• Attend required annual department training.
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
• Assist with troubleshooting, training, and making recommendations to improve workflow.
