Job summary

Quest Diagnostics Incorporated in Folsom, CA is hiring a Phlebotomist I to collect specimens and perform basic lab procedures with accuracy and courtesy. The role emphasizes adherence to established procedures, patient safety, and clear documentation.

The position requires a state phlebotomy license (NHA licenses are not accepted in CA). Typical hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM with rotational weekends.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical training beneficial; phlebotomy certification preferred or required in CA.
  • One year phlebotomy experience preferred and English communication ability.

Responsibilities

  • Collect specimens according to established procedures.
  • Research test information and verify orders using lab systems.
  • Navigate computer systems and enter data accurately.
  • Process specimens including labeling, centrifuging, and transport preparation.
  • Maintain phlebotomy logs and complete trainings promptly.

Job Title and Location

Phlebotomist I - Folsom, CA, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with rotational weekends

License Requirement

This position requires you to have a state phlebotomy license. (Quest does not accept NHA licenses in CA, WA, NV).

Pay Range

Pay range: $22.20 - $24.55 / hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
  • Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams.
  • Administer oral solutions according to established training.
  • Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems, client contact, and approved tools.
  • Navigate a computer and accurately enter data – a requirement to be successful in this role.
  • Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information, and collect payments when required, following corporate policies.
  • Process specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and preparing for transport as required by test order.Perform all non‑patient facing duties, including inventory, stock supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones and utilizing email as appropriate.
  • Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required.
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
  • Complete online and in person training courses timely.
Qualifications

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.

Work Experience:

  • One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.

The position requires the ability to effectively communicate in English.
