Job summary

Quest Diagnostics Incorporated in Avon, CT seeks a Phlebotomist I to collect specimens, administer oral solutions, and verify orders using lab systems. The position follows a Monday–Friday schedule with rotating weekends, supporting daily operations and quality control.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, medical training preferred, and phlebotomy certification where required. English communication skills are essential for patient interaction and data entry tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in CA, NV, WA.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens according to established procedures (drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams).
• Administer oral solutions according to established training.
• Research test/client information and confirm and verify all orders using lab systems and approved tools.
• Navigate a computer and accurately enter data.
• Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required.
• Process specimens (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and preparing for transport).
• Perform non-patient facing duties, including inventory, stocking supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones, and using email.
• Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies and procedures.

Phlebotomist I – Avon, CT – Work Hours

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; Thursday and Friday 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with rotational weekends.

Pay Range

$20.00 – $22.09 / hour

• Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders using lab technology systems, client contact, and approved tools.
• Navigate a computer and accurately enter data.
• Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following corporate policies.
• Process specimens (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and preparing for transport) as required by test order.
• Perform all non‑patient facing duties, including inventory, stocking supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones, and utilizing email as appropriate.
• Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
• Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required.
• Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner (maintenance logs, temperature logs, etc.).
• Complete online and in‑person training courses timely.

Qualifications

Required Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.

Work Experience

• One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.
• Keyboard/data entry experience.

The position requires the ability to effectively communicate in English.
