Job summary

Iredell Memorial Hospital Incorporated is seeking a phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy and blood collection across all ages, while handling registration and clerical tasks in the department. The role requires current BLS, a phlebotomy training or equivalent experience, and a valid national phlebotomy certification upon hire.

The position supports routine and special collections, with access to patient information as needed.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy training completed or substantial related experience in a health care setting.
• Current BLS certification required.
• 1–2 years of lab or phlebotomy experience preferred, in hospital/clinic.
• Must hold active national phlebotomy certification upon hire.
• Physically able to perform duties including walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 15 pounds.
• Must pass basic FIT test and have full range of motion.

Description

Proficiently performs phlebotomies and special collection procedures on patients of all ages (neonate to geriatric) and employees. Professional application of theories and techniques of phlebotomy are used to provide a quality specimen to be used to produce reliable test results. Performs registration and clerical functions for the department. Has full access to patient health information. May have access to medication storage areas (excluding controlled substances) as related to job responsibilities

Shift: M-F, 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM, on call every 4th weekend

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required through American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
• Must have successfully completed a phlebotomy training course through a community college, hospital-based training program, or have significant relevant experience working as a phlebotomist in a health care setting to have gained theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to perform these duties in this hospital setting.
• 1-2 years' experience in a laboratory, hospital, or doctor’s office with some phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Must have a current certification from a national accrediting agency such as ASCP, ASPT, or National Phlebotomy Association upon hire.
• Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) from approved organization
