Job summary

Health Partners Plans is seeking a Phlebotomist in the Philadelphia area to obtain patients' blood specimens by venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick, following standard procedures.

The role requires strict adherence to identification, biohazard precautions, proper timing and fasting requirements, and cooperation with nursing staff.

Shift is night hours 11pm–7:30am with every-other-weekend rotation and summer/winter holiday rotations; training provided.

Job Description

• Shift hours are strictly 11pm-7:30am. Candidate must be available for this shift. This position has an every other weekend rotation also on 11pm-7:30am. This position also has a two summer and two winter holiday rotation.

Summary

The Phlebotomist uses appropriate equipment and complies with phlebotomy policies and procedures, including proper techniques, patient identification, biohazard precautions, and timing and fasting requirements.

Job Duties

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.(Do not delete, move or over-write this statement)
• Performs phlebotomy and ensures accurate collection of requested tests from patient through venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick.
• Maintains positive patient identification during specimen collection.
• Communicates to nursing personnel or physician office relative or discrepant patient identification, fasting requirements or other related factors regarding collection. Communicates to Nursing when in house patients refuse blood draws. Will use Hospital resources when language barriers exist.
• Reviews all requisitions for missing information. Follows up with facility or provider if unable to obtain all information required for test performance.
• Checks appropriate collection, sorting and storage areas in the facilities for specimens to ensure specimens are not missed, and may transport/distribute these specimens to the laboratory as needed.
• Monitors information in Collection List and Unreceived Specimen Report. Completes Collection List with accurate time of collection and phlebotomist code.
• Cleans and stocks work area and assists with maintenance of supplies. Follows all safety and Laboratory Dress code policies
• Performs other lab related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use,
• patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
