Job summary

Medical Associates of Northwest Arkansas (MANA) is seeking a Phlebotomist to draw blood and collect specimens for clinical testing. The role emphasizes accuracy, timely task completion, and proper labeling of tubes for each test ordered.

Responsibilities include patient verification, sample collection using paper orders when needed, and adherence to Medicare guidelines. Venipuncture and finger/heel sticks are performed with professionalism, including a minimum of two sticks per encounter.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience preferred; but not required.

Overview

The Phlebotomist draws blood and obtains various specimens from patients with minimum discomfort and pain for the performance of clinical laboratory testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accuracy in all work; Complete tasks on time and per any deadlines, label specimens with a high degree of accuracy, ensure proper tubes are used for each blood test ordered
  • Verify the identity of every patient before collecting any samples
  • Identification and sample collection using paper orders in the event of an interruption in computer service
  • Be aware of Medicare guidelines, send-out test requirements, and special tests; Explain Medicare ABNs to patients clearly and accurately
  • Perform venipuncture and finger/heel stick procedures with a high degree of professionalism and concern for the patient, including a minimum of 2 sticks per encounter
  • Collect nasal and throat swabs and blood cultures when needed
