Job summary

The Phlebotomist I is responsible for safely collecting venous and capillary blood samples from pediatric to geriatric patients at Grande Ronde Hospital, following approved techniques and identification protocols. Collaborates with nursing and laboratory staff to ensure timely specimen collection, accurate labeling, EMR/LIS data entry, and adherence to infection control, safety, and quality standards.

Rotations may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; BLS required or obtain within 3 months.
• Phlebotomy certification (CPT/NCPT/ASCP) required; BLS within 3 months; hospital or clinical lab experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect venous and capillary blood samples according to hospital protocols.
• Verify patient identity and properly label specimens to ensure accuracy.
• Enter patient and specimen data into EMR/LIS accurately.
• Prepare specimens for transport and maintain equipment and supplies.
• Follow infection control and safety procedures, including PPE.
• May rotate to draw stations and cover weekends/holidays as needed.
