Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, NC is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venous and capillary blood collection, labeling, and safe handling of specimens. You will prioritize timely transport of specimens and support phlebotomy staff in daily operations.

The role requires a high school diploma and an ASCP/AMT/NHA/ACA/NCCT certification. You will work within established laboratory protocols and safety guidelines, contributing to quality patient care across the hospital system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Phlebotomy certification through ASCP, AMT, NHA, ACA or NCCT required.
• Knowledge/skill of blood collection and handling techniques.

Responsabilités

• Identifies patient, uses good technique to obtain specimen using venous or capillary methods, verifies and labels specimen prior to leaving patient.
• Prioritizes and transports specimens within stated TAT.
• Provides direction and guidance for questions and or problems referred by a non-certified phlebotomist concerning specimen acceptability, unusual or difficult draws or related problems.
• Performs accurate and appropriate collection and receipt of specimens in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
• Follows established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions, safety, fire safety, disasters, exposure, blood borne and airborne pathogens, hazardous materials, and chain of custody procedures.
• Assists with orientation of laboratory procedures for students and/or new laboratory employees
• When requested, performs duties required to cover in Phlebotomy Technical Specialist/Phlebotomy Coordinator's absence
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Phlebotomy certification through ASCP, AMT, NHA, ACA or NCCT required

Physical Requirements

• Interacts with patients according to the Erickson model of development
• Moderate to heavy amounts of walking
• Light lifting up to 25 pounds, general motion including bending, squatting, reaching, carrying, pushing and pulling
• Manual dexterity
• Ability to speak plainly
• Near visual acuity, ability to discern colors
• May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
