Kingfisher Recruiting is seeking a phlebotomist for a contract position covering Albany and surrounding areas. The role requires up to 8 hours, M-F with early starts and late finishes as needed, and a duration of about 3 months with potential for permanent placement.

Responsibilities include performing blood draws, labeling and processing specimens, and ensuring accurate data entry and specimen handling per protocol. A valid phlebotomy certification and 6+ months of experience are required.

Formación

• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
• High School Diploma or GED required; certification may be required depending on state.

Responsabilidades

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate technique using straight or butterfly needles and verify physicians' orders; match requisition forms to tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Package specimens for transport and check test requisitions against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Store specimens at required temperatures and maintain specimen integrity per protocol.
• Understand and comply with OSHA/DEP regulations; attend annual trainings.
• Answer telephone inquiries and relay laboratory results as needed.

Location: Float position covering Castleton, Delmar, Catskill, Schenectady, Cobleskill, Latham, Amsterdam, Valatie, Albany, Guilderland

Schedule: Monday-Friday. Potential hours could start as early as 6:30am and end as late as 5:30pm (8 for shifts)

Projected duration: 3 months + potential for perm

Summary

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required
• Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.Package specimens for transport
• Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
