Overview
A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist for a contract position projected to last approximately 3 months. This float role supports multiple patient service centers (PSCs) across Kansas and Missouri, playing a key part in ensuring accurate specimen collection and smooth lab operations across sites.
What you'll do
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
- Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
- Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
- Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
- Package specimens for transport, storing samples at required temperatures and following protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend annual department trainings
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
- Float to patient service centers in Kansas and Missouri as needed
Required qualifications
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
- Minimum of 2 years of experience; 2+ years of experience required
- Pediatric and geriatric experience
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
- Clean driving record and reliable transportation
