Job summary

Responsibilities

• Assist in performing duties, troubleshoot, train, and provide workflow recommendations.
• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge, record maintenance data and decontamination, update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures courteously.
• Demonstrate technique using straight or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, freeze specimens as required.
• Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperature.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and review laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
