Job summary

Franciscan Health Indianapolis is seeking a part-time Phlebotomy Technician to join the diagnostic laboratory team. You will collect blood specimens, register patients, and perform data entry and specimen accessioning in a fast-paced clinical environment.

This role requires a High School Diploma or GED, phlebotomy experience or training, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel to related sites as needed; on-site work with occasional on-call duties is expected.

Qualifications

• Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training required.
• Background in a medical laboratory and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• May be required to travel to other locations.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens and perform related phlebotomy duties.
• Register patients and enter data into the system; process paperwork and accession specimens.
• Prepare specimens for testing or send to central/reference labs; may perform waived POC tests as authorized.
• Participate in on-call rotation as required by the Laboratory Director.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

This individual is responsible for collection of blood specimens, for performing laboratory office duties, and processing laboratory specimens. Laboratory office duties will include registering patients, accurately and completely entering all necessary data into the computer system, specimen accessioning, answering telephone calls, and processing paperwork. Specimen processing duties will include preparation of specimens for testing and/or for sending to the central laboratory or to a reference laboratory. In addition to handling blood, body fluid and urine specimens according to established procedures, they may also perform limited waived and specified non-waived POC tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director. In some facilities this individual, as required, will act as a driver and participate in the on‑call rotation.
