Job summary

A leading plasma donation company located in Houston, Texas, is seeking a Phlebotomist 1 to ensure compliance with safety regulations while providing excellent donor experiences. The role includes executing venipunctures, operating plasmapheresis machines, and maintaining accurate documentation. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, have strong communication skills, and be capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications

• Minimum three months of experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred.
• Must have completed training documentation before performing duties independently.
• Ability to follow written and verbal protocols.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area.
• Review and confirm donor identification maintaining confidentiality.
• Execute venipunctures and plasma collection.
• Operate automated plasmapheresis machines and monitor donor conditions.
• Execute venipunctures and plasma collection, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
• Operates the automated plasmapheresis machines, including response and evaluation of all machine alarms and alerts, donor adverse events, document exceptions, etc.
• Monitor donor conditions, employing techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and the quality of plasma product.
• Maintains proper ratio to ensure donor safety and to quality of product.
• Disconnect donor and manage the disposal of biohazard waste and contaminated equipment in accordance with the safety protocols, between donors which can include cleaning of any blood or plasma spills and performs proper procedure for disposition of biohazardous waste.
• Performs daily, weekly, and monthly calibration/maintenance of automated plasmapheresis machines and removes and/or replaces equipment from service, if needed.
• Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of necessary records, including Plasmapheresis Machine Logs.
• Reports all unsafe situations and conditions to management.
• Maintains/stocks adequate inventory and replenishes supplies on plasma carts.
• Able to drive training efficiencies to ensure timeliness and compliance.
• Responsible for troubleshooting machine alarms/alerts and performs QCs routinely (defined as daily/monthly) on equipment.
• Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.

Job Summary

Ensures total operation is compliant with state and federal regulations (e.g., FDA approved Standard Operating Procedures, OSHA, CLIA, and GMP) to maintain the highest production standards and ensure facility compliance.

This Is What You’ll Do

• Maintains high level of customer service and positive donor experience in line with company values and culture.
• Maintains cleanliness of work area to ensure a clean and professional environment.
• Reviews and confirms donor identification and maintains donor confidentiality per Standard Operating Procedures.
• Sets up and prepares all equipment and disposable supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedure.

This Is What It Takes

• High school diploma, or equivalent (GED) required.
• Any specific certification or licensing based on State requirements.
• Minimum three (3) months’ experience in a medical or health care environment or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Must have completed documentation of training appropriate for duties, prior to performing duties independently.
• Strong customer service skills required.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal protocol required.
• Basic computer knowledge and skills required.
• Ability to make accurate and complete documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals required.
• Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Demonstrated consistency and reliability (good attendance, punctuality, apply full effort throughout shift, flexibility with assigned schedule) required.
• Ability to work daytime and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts frequently required.
• Ability to perform venipuncture required.
• Effective communication skills required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty-five pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel.
• Ability to utilize all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
• Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.
• Ability to view video display terminal less than 18” away from face for extended periods.
• Ability for up to four (4) hours at a time.
• The employee is required to enter an environment with a temperature of -40°C according to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ability to perform precise tasks that require repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for diagnostic tests.
• Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
