Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s Optum division is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform specimen collection, processing, and waived testing at our Yucaipa, CA site. You will label and route specimens, and communicate professionally with patients and staff.

Strong attention to detail and excellent communication are essential. The role offers a 40-hour work week with opportunities for growth and certification support.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; relevant certification preferred.
  • Current national certification or registration as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
  • 1+ year related experience as Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant.
  • 6+ months experience performing routine blood and urine tests.
  • 6+ months experience with equipment and testing to perform quality control checks.
  • Basic Life Support knowledge for Healthcare providers (AHA).
  • Basic computer literacy required.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain blood specimens by skin puncture or venipuncture for diverse populations.
  • Follow laboratory procedures and protocols precisely.
  • Enter patient data and tests into the LIS and label specimens accurately.
  • Deliver specimens to analytical areas promptly and correctly.
  • Work cooperatively within the laboratory team and communicate professionally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to standards.
  • Work at other locations as needed.

Under general supervision, the Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing a variety of laboratory duties, including specimen collection, processing, and waived testing. This position requires excellent communication skills, detail-oriented, and a passion for providing exceptional patient care.

Schedule: A 40-hour work week. Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00 pm

Location: 33758 Yucaipa Blvd, Yucaipa, CA 92399

Primary Responsibilities
  • Obtain blood specimens by skin puncture, venipuncture in patient populations ranging from newborn, pediatric to adult and geriatric
  • Follow all laboratory procedures and protocols
  • Accurately enter patient information and tests into the computer and accurately label specimens after the patient are drawn but before patient leaves
  • Deliver specimens to analytical areas
  • Work as a team member within the laboratory department. Communicate professionally with patients, providers and co-workers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Adhere to the Phlebotomy Clinical Laboratory Standards
  • When needed, ability to work at other locations

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Current National Certification OR Registration as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist OR the ability to obtain the certification within 180 days of employment
  • 1+ years of related experience working as Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant
  • 6+ months of experience performing routine blood and urine tests
  • 6+ months of experience with equipment and testing to perform quality control checks
  • Basic level of knowledge of Life Support for Healthcare providers (AHA)
  • Basic level of computer literacy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at a multi-specialty clinic or acute care facility, and experience with a laboratory computer system
