Job summary

AdventHealth in Rome, GA is seeking a part-time phlebotomist to support laboratory operations. You will perform venipuncture, collect specimens, and ensure proper labeling and workflow efficiency in a clinical lab setting.

Responsibilities include mentoring staff, coordinating daily workload, and upholding safety policies while providing accurate testing support and patient care.

Qualifications

  • High School Grad or Equiv Required.
  • Phlebotomy training or certification preferred for certain positions.
  • Excellent reading, writing and English communication.
  • Familiarity with lab equipment and basic computer use.

  • Transports hazardous waste and follows safety and training guidelines.
  • Performs venipuncture and specimen collection with accuracy.
  • Supports lab staff and mentors new employees as needed.
  • Ensures correct labeling and proper order receipt.
  • Maintains daily workflow and assists with problem resolution.

Job Description:
  • Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing required training for proper handling and transport.
  • Demonstrates understanding and adherence to the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
  • Assists with department orientation and trains laboratory staff and students.
  • Mentors new employees and ensures competency documentation is completed.
  • Troubleshoots phlebotomy service concerns and coordinates daily workload assignments.
  • Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a “first in – first out” basis, with stat and alert specimens prioritized before routine orders.
  • Follows appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
  • Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received properly. Supports leadership with daily workflow and problem resolution.
  • Serves as an example of professional phlebotomy performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask. Required
  • Ability and willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment. Required
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, etc. Required
  • Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English. Required
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Required
  • Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary) Preferred; completion of a phlebotomy training program Required for certain positions.
  • Familiarity with using computers, telephone, fax, copier, printers, and various laboratory equipment including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank and microbiology analyzers, glucometers, incubators, environmental hood, monitored refrigerators and freezers, centrifuges, phlebotomy chairs, and supplies.
  • Required for certain roles.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills. Required for specific job functions.
Education:
  • High School Grad or Equiv Required
  • Technical/Vocational School Preferred
Field of Study:
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred
Work Experience:
  • Phlebotomy experience Preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) Preferred
  • Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) Preferred

Pay Range:

$15.43 - $24.68
