Job summary

LewisGale Hospital Pulaski, part of the LewisGale Regional Health System in Pulaski, Virginia, seeks a Phlebotomy technician to support blood collection and lab operations. The role involves venipuncture, specimen handling and outpatient processing.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary puncture using proper technique; receives other specimens.
• Organizes blood collection workload and times to avoid delays; keeps workflow on track.
• Delivers blood specimens to work sections and centrifuges as needed.
• Processes outpatients for laboratory services by entering orders into LIS and collecting specimens.
• Performs clerical duties: retrieve specimens, answer phones, review requisitions, fax reports, file, stock.
• Performs EKGs on outpatients and submits printouts to the Respiratory department.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

• Collects blood specimens Collects appropriate blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary puncture using proper technique. Receives other specimens.


• Organizes blood collection workload Collects timed blood specimens. Keeps blood collection workload on track to avoid delays. Prioritizes specimen collections appropriately.


• Delivers blood specimens Delivers blood specimens to work sections timely. Centrifuges specimens as appropriate.


• Processes outpatients for laboratory services Enters outpatient orders into the LIS system and collects specimens.


• Clerical duties Retrieve specimens from drop box and receive them, answer phone, review of outpatient requisitions, faxing reports, filing, stocking.


• Performs EKG’s Perform EKG’s on outpatients and submit printouts to the Respiratory depart.

Position Qualifications:

• Degree: High school or equivalent required


• Experience: Phlebotomy or hospital preferred


• Certification/Registry: Phlebotomy preferred


• BLS from an approved agency within 90 days of hire required


• Other: Completion of phlebotomy training program preferred
