Job summary

Franciscan Health Michigan City is seeking a motivated phlebotomist to join our laboratory team. This role performs blood collection, data entry, specimen processing and related office duties, with day shifts and weekend/holiday rotation.

Under Laboratory Director guidance, you may drive to other locations and participate in on-call rotations; prior phlebotomy experience or training is required, and a valid driver's license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Prior phlebotomy experience or training preferred.
• Background in medical laboratory terminology is advantageous.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record might be required.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens from patients.
• Perform laboratory office duties (registering patients, data entry, paperwork).
• Process specimens for testing or sending to central/reference labs.
• Handle blood, body fluids and urine per established procedures; perform limited waived POC tests if authorized.
• May act as a driver and participate in on-call rotation.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

This individual is responsible for collection of blood specimens, for performing laboratory office duties, and processing laboratory specimens. Laboratory office duties will include registering patients, accurately and completely entering all necessary data into the computer system, specimen accessioning, answering telephone calls, and processing paperwork. Specimen processing duties will include preparation of specimens for testing and/or for sending to the central laboratory or to a reference laboratory. In addition to handling blood, body fluid and urine specimens according to established procedures, they may also perform limited waived and specified non-waived POC tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director. In some facilities this individual, as required, will act as a driver and participate in the on-call rotation.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training is required.

Background in a medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

Valid driveru2019s license and a good driving record.

May be required to travel/drive to other locations.
