Job summary

Baptist Health is seeking a Phlebotomist for the Lexington, KY laboratory. This role handles specimen collection across diverse patient ages, ensuring accurate identification and data entry, while maintaining safety practices and patient care standards.

You will work various shifts in a hospital setting, with emphasis on quality, speed, and clear communication to medical staff and patients. Training in BLS is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

• Requires BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides care appropriate to age of patients in the laboratory.
• Assesses tasks and takes action when problems detected.
• Identifies problems with specimens, test orders, and registrations.
• Identifies patients and specimens from collection to release of results.
• Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System with accurate data.
• Collects blood samples by appropriate method for a wide range of patients following safety procedures.
• Investigates and documents customer concerns and provides prompt, polite service.

Description:

• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by the laboratory.
• Assesses job functions and takes appropriate action when problems are detected.
• Identifies problems with specimens, test orders, registration and takes appropriate action.
• Identifies patients and specimens correctly from beginning of process to release of results.
• Accessions specimens into the Laboratory Information System, accurately recording pertinent data to be used by the physician in the interpretation of tests results
• Collect blood samples by appropriate method on premature babies to geriatric patients utilizing prescribed safety and infection control procedures to protect the patient and the phlebotomist.
• Investigates, documents and follows up on customers’ concerns, inquiries and provides prompt, polite customer service.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.
