Job summary

Baptist Health is seeking a Phlebotomist for various shifts at the Lexington, KY Laboratory Services site. The role supports the Clinical Lab and Pathology Department with accurate specimen collection, labeling, and data entry to ensure timely test results.

Ideal candidates will have a High School diploma, BLS certification (or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire), and a patient-centered approach to testing across age groups from neonates to geriatrics.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood samples by appropriate method on premature babies to geriatric patients utilizing prescribed safety and infection control procedures to protect the patient and the phlebotomist.
  • Identify patients and specimens correctly from beginning of process to release of results.
  • Accessions specimens into the Laboratory Information System and record pertinent data for physician interpretation.
  • Investigate, document and follow up on customer concerns, inquiries and provide prompt, polite customer service.

Description

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by the laboratory. Assesses job functions and takes appropriate action when problems are detected. Identifies problems with specimens, test orders, registration and takes appropriate action. Identifies patients and specimens correctly from beginning of process to release of results. Accessions specimens into the Laboratory Information System, accurately recording pertinent data to be used by the physician in the interpretation of tests results Collect blood samples by appropriate method on premature babies to geriatric patients utilizing prescribed safety and infection control procedures to protect the patient and the phlebotomist. Investigates, documents and follows up on customers’ concerns, inquiries and provides prompt, polite customer service.
