Responsibilities include venipuncture, specimen handling, and coordination with clinical staff. Requires phlebotomy certification and BLS, plus ability to lift 25+ lbs and pass VA background checks.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years phlebotomy experience (within the last 3 years).
  • Phlebotomy Certification and BLS required.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods and lift 25+ lbs.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with diverse patient populations.
  • Must complete VA background check, fingerprinting, and mandatory training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary collections for 40–80 patients daily, including difficult draws.
  • Collect blood cultures, urine specimens, and support glucose tolerance testing.
  • Verify patients using two identifiers and follow all VA/Joint Commission standards.
  • Label, transport, and process specimens; complete LIS accessioning.
  • Communicate with clinical staff regarding orders, add-ons, and results.
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and HIPAA/privacy requirements.
  • Maintain professionalism, customer service, and accurate documentation.
