Job summary

Centers Laboratory of New Jersey is actively seeking Phlebotomists to work weekdays from 8 AM to 7 PM at our Eatontown, NJ location. Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of phlebotomy experience and strong interpersonal skills. Responsibilities include patient prep, blood collection, labeling, and safe handling.

Reports to the Phlebotomy Supervisor; position requires flexibility to work at multiple locations and adhere to safety standards. Training provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy Technician certificate preferred.
• Without certificate must have completed a hospital or major lab training program.
• Understanding of standard blood drawing practices and procedures.
• 2 years proven experience as a phlebotomist.
• Good interpersonal skills and communication.
• Able and flexible to work nights, evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.
• Strict adherence to safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques.
• Valid State issued driver's license with a good driving record.
• Adequate automobile insurance.
• Vehicle in good driving condition.

Responsibilities

• Identify patients using a wristband, documents or through known visual identification.
• Receives assignments, assembles supplies and equipment required to perform specimen collection according to established standards, policies, and procedures.
• Accurately identifies priorities such as Stat, timed, or routine.
• Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health etc.
• Reassure patients and help them relax.
• Find veins suitable for puncture and draw blood using proper equipment and techniques.
• Label test tubes correctly and send or deliver them for testing.
• Follow safety rules to keep sharps away from patients and dispose of waste properly.
• Ensure test tube order of draw is correct.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Maintain quality and quantity of samples for testing.
• Do not attempt more than two attempts; request help if necessary.
• Keep patient records accurate and confidential.
• Educate patients on immediate aftercare.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary space.
• Monitor patient reactions and equipment operations.
• Attend required meetings and training programs.

Reports to: Phlebotomy Supervisor

Position Summary:

Phlebotomists are professionals who specialize in drawing blood from patients. Their responsibilities include interviewing and preparing the patient for the blood draw. They are required to follow strict precautionary safety procedures in order to limit the risk of contact with potentially infectious blood and other bodily fluids.

Record keeping and labeling are also major duties of phlebotomists, to ensure that the right tests are performed on the correct blood specimens.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Accurately identify patients using a wristband, documents or through known visual identification
• Receives assignments, assembles supplies and equipment required to perform specimen collection according to established standards, policies, and procedures

• Does not attempt to draw any patient more than two times and requesthelp if necessary
• Answer patient questions and provide useful information
• Keep accurate patient records
• Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working
• Monitor the patient for reactions; monitor equipment operations
• Educate patient on immediate aftercare
• Maintain a clean and sanitary space
• If trained on specimen storage and centrifugation, use all appropriate procedures
• Ensure patient confidentiality
• Must be capable of collecting and processing Covid-19 tests
• Attends all required company meetings and training programs
