Job summary

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in Decatur, AL is looking for a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our team. You will perform donor phlebotomies, register donors, assess eligibility, and maintain accurate donor identification throughout the collection process.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, a flexible schedule including nights and weekends, and a valid driver’s license. We offer strong benefits and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomies and collect blood from donors according to SOP.
• Collect blood using automated instruments after training.
• Register donors in the LifeSouth system (IBBIS).
• Determine donor eligibility based on interviews and physicals.
• Accurately identify donors throughout the donation process.
• Assist in recruitment, tele-recruitment, and rescheduling.
• Encourage transition to automated technology when appropriate.
• Provide high levels of customer service to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)

• Perform phlebotomies and collect blood from donors according to LifeSouth Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
• Collect blood using automated instruments (once trained)
• Register donors for blood collection in the LifeSouth computer system (IBBIS)
• Determine donor eligibility based on the results of the donor interview and physical process
• Accurately identify donors in every step of the donation process
• Assist in recruitment, tele-recruitment and rescheduling of donors
• Convert donors to automated technology (apheresis) when appropriate
• Provide the highest level of customer service to both internal and external customers

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be able to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
• Valid driver’s license. Must also meet and maintain LifeSouth driver’s eligibility requirements
• Proficient in a variety of computer software applications
• Excellent teamwork skills
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Previous customer service experience preferred
• CDL holders preferred; additional compensation available preferred

Position Details
