Job Summary
Responsible for the accurate, timely performance of venipuncture and/or capillary specimen collection to obtain quality laboratory results. Screen and enter patient data into the Laboratory computer system and central computer systems.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically, theemployee must be able to demonstrate competency in:
ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education
• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Formalized Training (Required) * Formalized Training in PhlebotomyExperience: 80 clinical hours with a minimum performance of 100 successful unaided blood collections to include venipunctures and skin punctures; orientation in a full-service laboratory; 40 clock hours of didactic training including anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system; specimen collection, processing, and handling; and laboratory operations, (e.g. safety, quality control, etc.). Substitution: Completion of one year full time acceptable experience as a phlebotomy tech in a CLIA laboratory may substitute for formalized training in phlebotomy. This experience must include venipunctures, skin punctures and orientation in a full-service laboratory.
