Job summary

AdventHealth Bolingbrook is seeking a part-time phlebotomist to join our team. You will perform venipuncture and microtainer collection, label specimens accurately, and support daily workflow in the laboratory while adhering to safety policies and PPE requirements.

This role requires strong organization, the ability to work independently or with a team, and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, and speak conversational English.
• High School Grad or Equiv required; technical/vocational training preferred.
• Phlebotomy training or certification is preferred for some positions.

Responsibilities

• Transports hazardous waste from generation site to designated storage and completes required training.
• Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently.
• Labels specimens correctly and ensures orders are received properly.
• Prioritizes specimen receipt and supports daily workflow in the laboratory.
• Maintains safety practices including PPE and proper chemical handling.

Job Description:

Part-time night shift

9:30pm - 6:00am

Rotating weekends (Saturday & Sunday) and Holidays

Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing required training for proper handling and transport.May troubleshoot phlebotomy service concerns and coordinate daily workload assignments. Supports leadership with daily workflow and problem resolution. Serves as an example of professional phlebotomy performance. Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently. Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received properly. Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a “first in – first out” basis, with stat and alert specimens prioritized before routine orders. Follows appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary) Preferred; completion of a phlebotomy training program Required for certain positions.
• Familiarity with using computers, telephone, fax, copier, printers, and various laboratory equipment including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank and microbiology analyzers, glucometers, incubators, environmental hood, monitored refrigerators and freezers, centrifuges, phlebotomy chairs, and supplies. Required for certain roles.
• Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills. Required for specific job functions.

Education:

• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
• Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]

Field of Study:

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred

Work Experience:

• Phlebotomy experience [Preferred]

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Preferred]
• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) [Preferred]
