Job summary

IMDiversity is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist for a full-time role at RBJ Health Center in Austin, Texas. Under general supervision, you will collect blood samples from adult and pediatric patients for laboratory testing and prepare specimens for analysis.

You will receive and organize collection requests, maintain supplies, and ensure accurate recording of specimen data while upholding safety and quality standards in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; six months training/experience in phlebotomy.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and patient collection.
• Ability to record specimen information accurately.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships in a hospital.

Overview

• Collect blood samples from adult and pediatric patients for laboratory testing.
• Receive and organize requests for blood collection.
• Distribute blood to the proper laboratory section after collection for testing.
• Gather supplies and equipment necessary for collection of blood samples.
• Clean laboratory glassware or other equipment.
• Keep the blood collection area organized and restocked for future use.
• Record blood collection statistics for documentation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of medical laboratory operations.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and techniques.
• Skill in obtaining blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
• Skill in accurately recording information concerning specimens.
• Skill in understanding and following written and oral instructions.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within a hospital setting.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus six (6) months training or experience in phlebotomy collections.

Licenses and Certifications

• None required.

Physical Requirements

• Moderate: Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force up to fifty (50) pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Phlebotomy Certification.
• Phlebotomy experience with pediatric patients and care for persons who use IV drugs.
• Bilingual English and Spanish.
• Data entry experience (eClinicaWorks or other electronic health record).
