Job description

Phlebotomist Part-Time
Job Summary

Are you ready to make a difference in people's lives while having some fun along the way? As a Phlebotomist at Atlas in Anchorage, AK, you'll be at the heart of patient care, crafting personalized solutions that truly matter. Your expertise will shine as you tackle unique challenges and connect with families in meaningful ways. With competitive pay ranging from $26 to $28 per hour, this is not just a job; it's a chance to bring your problem-solving skills to life and make an impact in your community.

As a Phlebotomist with Atlas, you'll provide an essential service to patients in the comfort of their own homes. You'll be responsible for safely and accurately collecting blood and other specimens while creating a calm, respectful, and compassionate experience for every patient.

Working in a home health environment means every visit is different. You'll meet patients where they are (typically facilities), build meaningful relationships, and work independently while remaining closely connected to our clinical team. Your ability to make patients feel comfortable, respected, and cared for is just as important as your technical phlebotomy skills.

At Atlas, we believe healthcare is about more than completing a task-it's about how we make people feel along the way.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform accurate venipuncture and capillary blood collections in patients' homes using appropriate collection techniques.
  • Travel to patient homes throughout Anchorage to obtain specimens as ordered by the patient's healthcare provider.
  • Provide a compassionate, professional experience while respecting the patient's home, privacy, dignity, and individual needs.
  • Practice positive patient identification and follow all specimen collection and labeling requirements.
  • Properly prepare, label, handle, store, and transport specimens to ensure specimen integrity and timely processing.
  • Follow established infection prevention, hand hygiene, sharps disposal, and safety procedures.
  • Adapt collection techniques to meet the needs of a diverse patient population, including older adults, medically complex patients, and hospice patients.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, nurses, providers, laboratories, and other members of the care team.
  • Recognize and communicate concerns related to patient condition, specimen collection, or safety to the appropriate member of the clinical team.
  • Maintain organized phlebotomy supplies and ensure all necessary equipment is available for scheduled visits.
  • Accurately document services and specimen collections according to Aegis policies and procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable regulations.
  • Represent Ancora Home Health and Hospice professionally in the community and during every patient interaction.
  • Demonstrate Atlas' core values of Character, Experience, and Trust in every interaction.
What Makes This Role Different

This isn't a traditional laboratory or hospital phlebotomy position. You’ll be bringing phlebotomy services directly to the patient.

You may be collecting a specimen at a kitchen table, in a living room, or alongside a family member caring for a loved one. You'll need to be comfortable working independently, navigating different home environments, and adjusting your approach to each patient.

For hospice patients in particular, your ability to provide a gentle, reassuring experience is incredibly important. Sometimes the smallest moments of kindness can make the biggest difference.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Compassionate, patient, and genuinely enjoys helping others.
  • Skilled and confident in venipuncture and specimen collection.
  • Comfortable working independently in patients’ homes.
  • Professional, dependable, and organized.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to specimen accuracy and patient safety.
  • Comfortable interacting with older adults, families, caregivers, and patients with complex healthcare needs.
  • A strong communicator who works well as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Respectful of patients’ homes, privacy, dignity, and personal circumstances.
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple patient visits throughout the day.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Phlebotomy Technician certification.
  • Demonstrated competency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection.
  • Ability to travel to patient homes throughout the assigned service area.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and appropriate auto insurance.

Preferred:

  • Previous phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience working with older adults or medically complex patients.
  • Home health, hospice, long-term care, hospital, laboratory, or other healthcare experience.
  • Experience working independently in a community or home-based setting.
