Job summary

Covenant House Michigan seeks a skilled data operations professional to serve as the operational backbone of the Philanthropy Department, ensuring donor data integrity, supporting fundraising strategy, and building the systems that help advance our mission.

You will manage donor data in Raiser's Edge NXT, oversee gifts and receipting, provide analytics, and support annual giving and communications. Collaboration with Finance ensures reconciliation and accuracy across systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five (5) years of experience in database management, fundraising/development, nonprofit, or related field.
• Experience with Raiser's Edge NXT or other Blackbaud CRM strongly preferred.
• Professional understanding of development best practices and operations.
• Positive and collaborative professional philosophy aligned with CHMI mission.

Responsibilities

• Manage CHMI’s donor database (Raiser’s Edge NXT) and ensure accurate data import/export.
• Oversee gift recording, receipting, and acknowledgement processes; manage online giving platforms.
• Support annual giving and communications via data sets, segmentation, analytics, and reports.
• Build and run regular KPI reports for the Philanthropy Department and ensure annual updates for accuracy.
• Support portfolio management and prospect identification processes in coordination with leadership.
• Participate in annual audits and reconciliations with CHMI financial services.
• Maintain SOPs, data hygiene, analytics, and forecasting to anticipate growth.
• Update and maintain departmental process documentation to support fundraising success.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, you will serve as the operational backbone of the Philanthropy Department, ensuring the integrity of donor data, supporting fundraising strategy, and creating the systems that help advance our mission. This is an opportunity for a highly analytical professional to influence fundraising performance and help deepen donor engagement through data-driven decision making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage CHMI’s donor database of record, Raiser’s Edge NXT, supporting the work of the Philanthropy Department and Executive Leadership Team. Ensure consistent and accurate importing and exporting of data through regular and timely processes. Evaluate data collection and processing procedures and recommend and implement improvements to current strategy/process.
• Manage all gift recording, receipting, and acknowledgement processes. Identify opportunities for improvement and refinement to increase donor engagement and stewardship. Manage the online giving platform and giving forms.
• In partnership with the Director of Development and Communications, provide support for all annual giving and communications activities, including but not limited to generating data sets, data segmentation, analytics, and reports.
• Build and run regular reports that support the tracking of key performance indicators for the Philanthropy Department. Evaluate all reports annually to ensure consistency and ensure updates are made as needed.
• Support the prospect management process through the development of processes and procedures that support portfolio management, prospect identification, and tracking.
• In partnership with the CHMI financial services team, participate in annual audits and ongoing reconciliation activities to ensure accuracy across systems and reports.
• Manage all database administration and standard operating procedures, including data hygiene, analytics, reporting, queries, forecasting, and the updating of systems as needed to anticipate growth and create efficiencies.
• Update, draft, and maintain departmental process documentation to support the fundraising success of CHMI.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Five (5) years of experience in database management, fundraising/development, nonprofit, or related field.
• Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT or other Blackbaud CRM strongly preferred.
• Professional understanding of and passion for development best practices and general operations. Understanding of trends and best practices within data management, annual giving, and development.
• Positive and collaborative professional philosophy, recognizing that this position is integral to the achievement of the goals and objectives of CHMI.

• COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds.
• PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize, and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills required. Demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple creative projects in various media, often at the same time. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.
• ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail to achieve a high degree of accuracy.
• TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in a nonprofit environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams.
