Mercor is seeking PhD or Master's level scientists to author AI evaluation tasks for a new benchmark in scientific computing. You will craft original, executable research problems that current frontier models cannot solve, with emphasis on physics subdomains and rigorous grading criteria.

Applicants will source data, write prompts, and collaborate to ensure the tasks challenge advanced models. This six-week, part-time engagement starts immediately and requires Python/R coding and Git/Docker

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, applied physics, or closely related field.
• Demonstrated depth in at least two subdomains: condensed matter, optics, quantum information/computing, computational physics, astrophysics, particle physics.

Responsibilities

• Source material: published paper, Kaggle dataset, open-source repo, or self-designed scenario.
• Write scientific prompts based on the input.
• Build grading criteria to define a correct answer.
• Calibrate against frontier models; a task ships when strong models fail it more often than they succeed.
