Job summary

Schonfeld is seeking a highly motivated PhD student in economics to join our Central Research team in New York. You will work on live macro and fixed income questions that feed portfolio decisions and enhance market understanding.

The role emphasizes building models and empirical research with real-world impact, data tool development, and clear communication with researchers and PMs in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• PhD student in Economics, Financial Economics, or related quantitative field.
• Research experience in economics, finance, or policy is a plus but not required.
• Strong grounding in macro theory and applied econometrics (time series, panel data, causal inference).
• Proficient in at least one programming language (Python, R, MATLAB).

Responsibilities

• Build quantitative models on growth, inflation, labor markets and policy across developed and emerging markets.
• Conduct empirical macro research on policy transmission, term premia, and cross-country spillovers.
• Develop and maintain data and analytical tools for the research team.
• Communicate findings clearly to researchers and portfolio managers to inform live decisions.
