Job summary

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) invites a PhD candidate in a technical field to contribute to AI research initiatives during a Summer 2027 Internship in Santa Clara, CA.

You will collaborate with researchers and engineers on ML/AI systems, coordinate experiments, and document handoffs between research and engineering teams. You will gain real-world experience, work full-time in a hybrid/onsite setup, and help shape research roadmaps and evaluation criteria for cutting-edge projects across AI

Qualifications

• Pursuing a PhD in a technical or related field.
• Foundational understanding of machine learning, reinforcement learning, generative AI, or ML systems.
• Experience coordinating technical projects through coursework, research, internships, or extracurricular activities.
• Ability to manage ambiguous work and collaborate with researchers and engineers.
• Experience with AI research, machine-learning, or software-engineering projects is a plus.
• Familiarity with LLM post-training, RLHF, preference optimization, reward modeling, or AI agents is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support research roadmaps, milestones, experiment schedules, and dependency tracking.
• Coordinate datasets, evaluation systems, compute requirements, and deliverables across teams.
• Organize experiment reviews, decision records, and follow-up actions.
• Track benchmark performance, reproducibility, stability, risks, and blockers.
• Support GPU capacity planning and experiment prioritization.
• Prepare concise program updates for technical and leadership audiences.
• Document requirements and evaluation criteria for research-to-engineering handoffs.
