Job summary

UPMC Chartwell is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician Trainee to support pharmaceutical care within the UPMC Health System. You will help organize, stock, and distribute medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, adhering to state and health regulations.

Eligibility for a $5,000 sign-on bonus is included, with $3,000 upfront and $2,000 after promotion. Shifts run 8:00–16:30, 6:30–15:00, and 12:30–21:00 with every 3rd weekend. Benefits and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required.
• PA State Board of Pharmacy Registration required for all PA locations

Responsibilities

• Provide and receive information to hospital personnel, patients and visitors; refer drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
• Finalize sales using cash register and follow cash handling policies.
• Participate in distribution of medication including cassettes, emergency carts and delivery of controlled substances per policy and state/federal requirements.
• Assist in preparation of proper oral medications for correct patient and administration time; use proper technique.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
• Fill medication orders with correct labeling, counting and stocking; initial and date products as required.
• Ensure medications are stored safely according to health and regulatory standards.
• Maintain documentation (eye wash, refrigerator, inventory logs, etc.).
• Retrieve and return/distribute discontinued medications as needed.
• Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and PBM contracting requirements.
• Practice proper hand hygiene in pharmacy and units; develop productive service relationships during distribution process.
• Use computer systems to process and maintain patient information and records.

UPMC Chartwell is looking for a full time Pharmacy Technician Trainee to join their dedicated team!

The Pharmacy Technician, Trainee provides pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System by primarily assisting with the organization, stocking, and distribution of medications while under the direct supervisor of a licensed pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

Qualified candidates are eligible for a 5,000 sign on bonus. $3,000 paid up front in the first 90 days, and $2,000 after successful promotion to a Pharmacy Technician.

This role will work 3 rotating shifts - 8am to 4:30pm, 6:30am to 3pm and 12:30pm to 9pm. Every 3rd weekend shift.

Responsibilities:

• General: Provide and received information (via telephone, person-to-person, or written) to hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Refer all drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
• General: finalize sales using cash register, follow proper cash handling policies and procedures
• Distribution: Participate in the distribution of medication including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts and the delivery of controlled substances per department policy and state and federal requirements.
• Filling: Assist in the preparation of the proper oral medications for the correct patient for administration at the appropriate time. Use proper technique in the preparation of medications.
• General: Develop and maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
• Filling: Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting and stocking practices. Initial and date products as required.
• General: Ensure that all medications in all areas have been safely and securely stored according to Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
• General: Maintain all pertinent documentation as required. This includes eye wash logs, refrigerator logs, perpetual inventory logs etc.
• Distribution: Retrieve medications that have been discontinued and return (and credits if necessary) them to the appropriate pharmacy area
• General: comply with Federal and State laws such as HIPAA, regulations such as OSHA, and PBM contracting requirements such as FWA and CMS.
• General: Practice appropriate hand hygiene both in the pharmacy and in the units.
• Distribution: Develop and maintain positive and productive service relationship during medication distribution process.
• General: Use computer skills to process and maintain all patient information and records.

Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required.
