POSITION OVERVIEW

The Pharmacy Technician, Solid Dosage Compounding transforms raw materials into precise, high-quality medications by executing disciplined non-sterile compounding, equipment operation, documentation, and packaging activities. Working within Empower’s hyper-growth, highly regulated 503A and 503B environment, this role supports safe, consistent production of capsules, tablets, and orally disintegrating tablets while maintaining rigorous quality and safety standards.

The technician owns accurate weighing, mixing, labeling, equipment checks, and production records, and partners with Quality, Regulatory, and Research teams to troubleshoot issues and improve formulation consistency. Success requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, learning agility, and reliable execution under changing priorities.

This position directly supports patient safety, product quality, production throughput, and Empower’s mission to expand access to innovative, affordable medications through accountable, precise, and continuously improving operations across every assigned solid dosage batch.

RESPOSIBILITIES
Compounding Operations
  • Batch Preparation: Prepare non-sterile capsules, tablets, and orally disintegrating tablets by accurately weighing, mixing, labeling, and packaging ingredients according to approved procedures.
  • Material Accuracy: Verify ingredients, quantities, labels, and batch information before processing to protect product consistency, traceability, and patient safety.
  • Production Execution: Complete assigned compounding activities efficiently and accurately, balancing production priorities with required quality controls, documentation, and safe work practices.
Quality and Safety
  • Procedure Compliance: Follow applicable USP, DEA, OSHA, NIOSH, FDA, Texas State Board of Pharmacy, and internal quality requirements during assigned work.
  • Safety Practices: Use required personal protective equipment that meets OSHA and American National Standards Institute requirements, and follow approved procedures for compounding and cleaning.
  • Documentation Control: Record production activities, inspections, logs, and required information in designated software systems accurately, completely, and at the time work occurs.
Equipment and Collaboration
  • Equipment Operation: Operate tablet presses, encapsulators, blenders, blister pack machines, and related solid dosage equipment according to approved operating procedures.
  • Equipment Care: Perform required equipment inspections, assembly, disassembly, cleaning, calibration support, and preventive maintenance activities to maintain reliable production readiness.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, and Research partners to troubleshoot production issues, improve formulations, and strengthen product consistency across batches.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to read, understand, and follow technical documents and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and use pharmaceutical-grade compounding equipment.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of one year of experience in solid dosage compounding, chemical mixing, blending, machine assembly and disassembly, granulation, calibration, compression processes, and preventive maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical or industrial engineering, pharmaceutics, industrial pharmacy, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician or Technician Trainee license required; Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Nonsterile Compounding Certificate preferred; Lean Six Sigma White Belt preferred.
