Job summary

JobRx, Inc. in Boston, MA is seeking a Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician to support pharmacy services including preparation, packaging, labeling, and shipping of medications under pharmacist supervision.

This role requires MA Tech registration, national certification within 6 months, and familiarity with MS Office; prior experience is preferred. Work involves maintaining accuracy, patient safety, and compliant fulfillment workflows.

Qualifications

  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MA Board of Pharmacy by the hire date.
  • Must also have national certification from Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam of Certified Pharmacy Techs (exCPT), or within 6 months from start date.
  • Pharmacy students who have completed 2 years of education in an approved college/school of pharmacy are eligible for pharmacy internship, and may be waived for the required experience.
  • 6 months - 1 year of work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and performs medication fulfillment related competencies for central fill, traditional, and specialty prescriptions.
  • Place completed prescription medication into appropriate packing container and use associated supplies to ensure product integrity during shipping.
  • Securely seal each container and use appropriate packaging materials for protection during transport.
  • Follow URAC standards for fulfillment and distribution of specialty drugs.
  • Ensure shipping labels are accurate to deliver to the designated locations on time.
  • Prepare prescription orders in a timely manner; retrieve, count, measure and prepare medications as directed, with pharmacist verification.
  • Support pharmacy services and maximize patient care outcomes by ensuring correct patient dispensing and professional service.
  • Communicate any malfunctioning equipment and unsafe working conditions to pharmacists or supervisors.

Education

MA Board of Pharmacy registration
PTCB or exCPT certification

SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician is responsible for providing pharmacy services which include, but are not limited to, preparing and distributing pharmaceuticals, maintaining pharmacy records, packaging and shipping medications and operating/monitoring pharmacy automated technology systems. The Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician works under the direct supervision of the Pharmacists and/or the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to ensure delivery of high-quality patient focused pharmacy service.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains and performs medication fulfillment related competencies for central fill, traditional, and specialty prescriptions.

  • Place completed prescription medication into appropriate packing container and use associated supplies to ensure product integrity is maintained throughout the shipping process. This process shall include but is not limited to preparing contents for shipment by weighing, labeling, and recording information about each package within the shipping software.
  • Responsible for ensuring that packages make it safely to their destination by securely sealing each container. Must be able to use hand tools, adhesives, padding, and other products to protect package contents following approved guidelines regarding proper packaging.
  • Follows URAC standard and regulations for fulfillment and distribution of specialty drugs.
  • Must ensure shipping patient/clinic mailing/destination address label is accurate to ensure package arrives at the designated locations within set time

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and/or the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, supports the department in the ethical practice of pharmacy on a daily basis by providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services.

  • Prepares prescription orders in a timely manner; retrieves, counts, measures and prepares medications as directed. Ensures all work is checked by a pharmacist.
  • Supports the service needs of the pharmacist relative to pharmacy services and maximized patient care outcomes such as, ensuring the prescription is dispensed to the correct patient in a professional manner

Communicates to pharmacists and/or pharmacy supervisors on malfunctioning equipment and unsafe working conditions.

Maintains own professional and specialized competency, including the following:

  • Assumes responsibility for participating in experiences necessary to ensure appropriate skill development and training.
  • Maintains and displays appropriate knowledge of developments in the field through continuing education, reviewing pertinent literature and/or by attending professional meetings.
  • Attends and participates in hospital and other management training and development workshops.
  • Must have/maintain registration with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.

Maintains excellent familiarity with appropriate department policies and procedures, including adhering to the following:

  • Adapts to changes in the departmental needs including but not limited to: offering assistance to other team members, floating, adjusting assignments, etc.
  • Maintains all designated medical information confidential as per established protocols.
  • Maintains work environment in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
  • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to support the department and the hospital's mission and goals.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedure
Requirements
Education
  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MA Board of Pharmacy by the hire date (Pharmacy Interns are not required to hold CPhT certification)
